Former Garissa Governor Nathif Jamah Probed on How He Acquired Degree at Age 15

Former Garissa Governor Nathif Jamah is under investigations after queries were raised over how he acquired his degree aged 15.

Police launched probe on the former county boss after a man petitioned Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate and ascertain that indeed, his academic credentials are genuine.

Papers submitted by Nathif to IEBC, show that was born on January 1, 1969 and graduated from University of Karachi, in Pakistani with bachelor of commerce in 1984. This means he was 15.

Through lawyer Githinji Mwangi and Associates Advocates, Mohamed Ibrahim wrote to the Director of Criminal Investigations on June 8th asking for a probe on Nathif. The letter was copied to IEBC and Commission for University Education.

“The aspirant having been born in 1969 would not have possibly completed his degree certificate in 1984 as he was only 15 years,” says the letter.

Nathif used Kalonzo Musyoka-led Wiper Party ticket to defend his seat, but lost to Jubilee’s Ali Korane.

Korane garnered 59871 votes (51.26%), while Nathif was second with 55156 votes (47.23%)

Nathif has since lodged a petition seeking nullification of Korane's August 8th victory, saying the elections were were irregular.

An officer at the DCI said they are still investigating the matter.
