Mudavadi: President Uhuru Wants to be a Dictator

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential campaign manager Musalia Mudavadi has sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta is planning to remove the constitutional two term presidential limit.

In a statement to the press, the Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader described President Kenyatta’s remarks that Jubilee would impeach Raila if he wins the next repeat election as ‘outrageous,’ adding that the President wants Kenya to resort to dictatorship.

“This is not only a violation of the Oath of Office he took, but also a criminal intent to disrupt the proper working of government when Uhuru losses the elections as he himself has predetermined. Kenyans must decide whether they want a return to the imperial presidency or safeguard their democratic freedoms under Raila,” said Mudavadi.

Mudavadi said that President Kenyatta's plan must be rejected, and called on Kenyans to impeach Uhuru on the ballot for inciting Kenyans against, what he said, would be a validly elected government of opposition candidate, Raila Odinga, after October 17th.

Mudavadi argued that President Uhuru’s remarks should not only worry Kenyans but also Deputy President William Ruto, because removing the two-term presidential limit would mean reneging on promises to support Ruto in 2022 State House race.

On Monday, during a meeting with a section of Kamba leaders at State House, the head of state said NASA does not have the parliamentary strength to rule effectively even if Raila is to be elected and would not take a few months and Jubilee would remove him.

In a quick rejoinder, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula rubbished President Uhuru Kenyatta’s claims saying that the ruling party did not have the super majority in both Houses as required by the Constitution to oust a president.

“The process of impeaching a president starts from the National Assembly. If they have two thirds of the vote then it goes to the Senate for a full trial. When that trial is concluded and the House finds the president guilty of the charges then a two thirds majority can seal the impeachment. But in this case what are the charges that President Kenyatta has on Raila?” Wetangula had asked.
