Centum Investment’s James Mworia has set a new record for highest paid Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in Kenya.

A pay rise of 5.1 per cent has seen Mworia take home Sh375.6 million in the year ended March compared to Sh201.1 million the year before. This means that his total five-year pay will rise to nearly Sh1 billion.

The pay rise extends Mr Mworia’s record as corporate Kenya’s highest-paid CEO to Sh31.3 million per month, the firm’s latest annual report indicate.

Mworia’s new pay record is as a result of Centum's performance bonus scheme, whose targets he has consistently met over the years, netting hundreds of millions of shillings in profits.

Mworia’s Sh375.6 million a year pay places puts him ahead of the remuneration of chief executives of the five largest companies by market capitalisation at the Nairobi Securities Exchange including telecommunication giant Safaricom, East African Breweries Limited and KCB Group.

Safaricom’s CEO Bob Collymore and KCB’s Joshua Oigara recently announced they take home Sh9 million and Sh4.9 million per month, totaling to Sh108 million and Sh58.8 million respectively per year.
