Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho Arrested Following Confrontation with Police
Police on Monday morning temporarily arrested and detained Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho at the Nyali Police Station.
Joho was taken in by police following a confrontation over alleged land grabbing, causing tension at the station.
The vocal governor in company of a few county officials arrived at Nyali Police station demanding for the release of seven County Inspectorate officers who had been apprehended while conducting demolitions in the coastal city, leading to his arrest.
Joho claimed that Mombasa police boss was colluding with other police officers to grab public land in Mombasa. He alleged that police officers were working on orders from above.
"I have established that the Police Commander here and his officers here are simply trying to aid someone to grab public land,” said Joho.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy leader was later released after the incident.
