Raila's Supporters Hold anti-IEBC Demos in Nairobi, Kisumu

John Wanjohi Sep 26, 2017

National Super Alliance (Nasa) supporters on Tuesday staged anti-IEBC demonstrations in Kisumu and Nairobi to force officials Nasa has accused of bungling August 8th presidential election.

In Kisumu, one of Raila's perceived strongholds, hundreds of protesters marched to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission offices on Tuesday in Kisumu town demanding the resignation of the commission’s top officials, including Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba.

They accused Chiloba and his group of interfering with last month’s presidential poll that was quashed by the Supreme Court.

They carried twigs, honking motorbike horns, wailing uncontrollably and carrying banners started along the lakeside City streets.

Some of the banners read “ Chilona must go”, others read “no reforms no elections” and “IEBC must go.”

In Nairobi, protesters gathered outside IEBC headquarters at the Anniversary Towers as early as 10am as they waved placards shouting "Chiloba Must Go".

By noon, the number of demonstrators in the city Central Business District had increased to hundreds.

Jubilee Supporters arrived at the University Way for counter-protests, but a confrontation between the two groups turned ugly minutes later as they engaged in stone-throwing battle. Police were forced lob teargas canisters to disperse the two groups.
