Kikuyu Elders Curse Embakasi East MP Babu Owino Over Slur Directed at President Uhuru
The Kikuyu Council of Elders on Tuesday performed rituals in Thika to 'curse' Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino for his alleged slur directed at President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Elders saud that the consequences of the curse will be evident on the youthful MP in seven days, seven months or after seven years.
The Elders performed the rituals in Mama Ngina gardens, Thika town, after a peaceful march, where they slaughtered a pure white lamb and burnt the meat to ashes while reprimanding and cursing Paul Ongili.
The elders mixed the lamb's blood with milk and honey and other paraphernalia, and poured it around the fire as they performed the traditional ritual. They claimed that the smoke rising from the burnt offering to the skies was an indication that God had accepted their sacrifice.
91-year-old Elder Michael Kinga from Kiambu said they appeased God with the sacrifice and prayed, facing Mt Kenya and pleaded with him to strike the 28-year-old MP for his derogatory remarks.
"We were angered by the young boy's insults. Even the Bible is clear that parents must be respected as well as leaders who have been anointed to lead," he said.
"Likening the former First Lady to a dog and the President to a puppy has caused us a lot of pain. God will unleash His wrath upon him,".
Kinga said the ritual was the first of its kind in the country, as well as the first against a non-Kikuyu.
Chairman Njoroge Karatu said: "We were born by mothers and every mother or woman who listened to what Owino said, likening them to dogs, must be hurt. This sacrifice will make this country tremble once the curse takes effect,".
The Elders said the newly elected MP will be cleansed if he repents before the council and apologizes to Uhuru and Mama Ngina. Karatu said the curse was meant to serve as a reminder to the youth to respect their elders.
