Kidero Makes a U-turn after Conceding Defeat to Mike Sonko, Now Says There Were Massive Irregularities

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has made a roundabout on Mike Sonko's August 8th Nairobi gubernatorial seat victory victory.

Kidero now claims that over 60 percent of Forms 37A used to announce Mike Sonko as the winner of Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the August 8th election had irregularities.

In papers filed in the high court through his lawyer Tom Ojienda, Kidero says that election forms used to declare Sonko contained multiple anomalies, others did not have polling station tallies while other lacked security features, “with all the inconsistencies affecting more than 308,918 votes”.

In a sworn affidavit, the former County boss says that 798 of the 1,300 Forms 37As werd not signed by party agents and presiding officers, while some had varied dates and others were not stamped.

In an application filed on Friday, Kidero seeks to be enjoined as an interested party in a petition lodged by Japhet Muroko challenging Sonko’s victory.

In the application, Dr Kidero documents the stations where irregularities were allegedly committed, their code, stream, constituency and number of votes affected. He argues that the votes affected are enough to change the outcome of the election.

Sonko was announced the winner after garnering 869,050 votes against Dr Kidero’s 695,770.

“This represents 25,462 votes. The most affected constituencies were Roysambu, Embakasi North and Dagoretti South,” he said in the application.

He also claim that 211 Forms 37A affecting over 90,090 votes were not signed by presiding officers, while 12 forms had varied dates of signing touching 5,725 votes.

“How could one polling station have the same Forms 37A with different dates? This clearly shows that the results on forms used to declare the election outcome were cooked,” he said.

Kidero had earlier conceded defeat to Sonko and even attended the Swearing In Ceremony to hand over power to the former Nairobi senator.
