Youths Chanting Pro-Raila Slogans Vandalize Safaricom Shop along Moi Avenue, Nairobi

Safaricom has become the latest victim of vandals posing as opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters, after a Customer care shop located along Moi Avenue street in Nairobi was vandalized on Saturday morning.

Witnesses of the Saturday morning incident said that a group of men rammed a car into the shop, destroying a large section of the shop's glass walls. The group of youths were reportedly chanting pro-Raila slogans as they vandalized the shop, while saying that they wanted to teach Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore a lesson.

NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga last week linked the telecommunication firm to the ‘bungled’ August 8th presidential election. He accused six senior Safaricom employees of involving themselves in an election rigging plot to hand President Uhuru a victory. He alleged the six staffers connived with French ICT company, OT Morpho and the IEBC to manipulate the election in favour of President Uhuru.

In defending his staff, Collymore said that Safaricom transmitted the election results and warned the opposition leader against attacking his employees.

On Friday, NASA supporters taking part in anti-IEBC demos in Kisumu looted Tumaini Supermarket and a nearby eatery.
