President Uhuru, Raila Engage Each other on Twitter

John Wanjohi Oct 07, 2017

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his rival Raila Odinga have shifted their war of words from political rallies to the internet.

The two most popular politicians in the country engaged each other Twitter, each blaming the other for the ailing economy of the country.

The 'confrontation' started when the head of state made a tweet accusing the former Prime Minister of destroying the economy for his personal gains in an article by the Presidential Service Communication Unit (PSCU).

"Stop destroying Kenya’s economy for your selfish gain, President Kenyatta tells Raila," the headline og the article posted by the President read.

The President was making reference to the ongoing anti- Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) protest called by Raila to force a section of electoral commission officials from office.

On Friday, the protests by Nasa supporters were marred with incidents of destruction of property and looting in some parts of the country.

However, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) seems to have been aggrieved by President Uhuru's tweet, if the series of tweets in response to Uhuru's allegations is anything to go by. He instead blamed the poor performance on the President.

"Banks are at their worst. Interest rates remain at choking levels, the only industries you’ve grown are corruption and looting," Raila tweeted in response.

"Four years ago 18% of GOK revenue went to debt repayment , today it stands at 38%," the Nasa leader said in another tweet.

"Four years ago GOK was responsible for 35% of domestic debt borrowings, today it stands at 97%. Uhurunomics failed long ago!!!," Raila added.

As usual, supporters of each of the two stormed the social media platform, each group standing in solidarity of their leader.
