President Uhuru Assures Kenyans of Peace Ahead of October 26th Vote

President Uhuru Kenyatta hss assured Kenyans that the October 26th repeat Presidential election will be peaceful.

The Head of State said that there will be no way the country will plunge into politically instigated violence under his watch, saying the government will protect the lives and properties of Kenyans.

“This country belongs to all of us but at this time of rising political temperatures, many are scared and wondering what will happen but I want to assure you that I will do anything in my powers to ensure there is peace and Kenyans elect their president in a free, fair and credible process,” he said.

The President was addressing Catholic pilgrims who converged at the National Shrine of Mary Mother of God in Subukia, Nakuru County during a prayer rally organised by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) on Saturday.

The president was responding to the calls by the Church to end the political impasse surrounding the fresh poll ordered by the Supreme Court.

Kenya Catholic Church Bishops Association chairman Archbishop Philip Anyolo called on the president to reach out to his rival Raila Odinga to solve the stalemate over the upcoming repeat contest involving the two.

“Make us one people regardless of religion, political affiliation and backgrounds,” Archbishop Anyolo said.

Deputy President William Ruto expressed confidence that the country would remain peaceful and united despite the heightened political temperatures in the country.

“God loves our country and our country will not perish. I’m sure because Christ Jesus is still on the throne, this country is going to be safe,” Ruto said.

Kisumu Archbishop Zacheaus Okoth of Kisumu who presided over the mass, challenged Uhuru and Raila to put differences aside and unite Kenyans.

“Political leaders must embrace peace, dialogue, mutuality and conviviality for the country to move forward together as a family,” Archbishop Okoth said.
