Raila Afraid of a Humiliating Defeat, DP William Ruto Says

Deputy President William Ruto says that National Super Alliance (NASA) cannot live with the fact that President Uhuru would floor him on the ballot.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ruto said that Raila bolted out of the presidential race after sensing a “humiliating defeat” in the hands of President Uhuru.

“He wanted to avoid a humiliating defeat but the court has ruled that all candidates who participated in the August 8 election will be on the ballot. So he will not escape another defeat,” Ruto said while speaking in Kajiado on Wednesday.

Ruto insisted that President Uhuru won the August 8th and questioned why Raila withdrew from the race if he believes he won, as has been claiming.

“Mr Odinga, you had claimed you had won, don’t run away. You have been given another chance,” the deputy president stated.

Raila bowed out of the October 26th poll accusing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of ignoring their demands to have reforms before the new election is conducted.

While announcing his withdrawal, the former Prime Minister said that IEBC had “refused, neglected or failed to put in place mechanisms to correct illegalities and irregularities cited by the Supreme Court during the nullification of the August election.”

However, in a statement on Wednesday evening, the electoral commission said that the Orange Party leader will still be in the ballot, because he had not formally withdrawn from the race by filling the statutory form 24A as required by the law.
