Why NASA has 'Renamed' Uhuru Park to 'Raila Odinga Grounds'
Leaders allied to opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) say that they have ‘renamed’ Nairobi's Uhuru Park grounds to "Raila Odinga grounds".
Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, the leaders on Wednesday said that they were dissatisfied with the name of the historical grounds and had decided to re-branded its name so it would match with their weekly anti-IEBC demonstrations.
Senator Orengo said that since they are using the facility hold their reform movement against IEBC, it was important to drop President Kenyatta's first name from ground's name.
“Everywhere we go, Uhuru is being mentioned. So, from today as well as during our demonstrations, this park will be known as Raila Odinga park. And so on Friday, we will meet at Raila Odinga park,” Orengo was quoted by the Nation.
Other leaders present during the 'declaration' were Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama among others.
Orengo further announced that Nasa will hold the demos on a daily basis starting Monday next week.
“From Monday they need to know the protests will be daily all over the country. We are not here to joke. If there are no reforms, there will be no elections,” he said.
