I'm Not Bankrupt, Presidential Aspirant Cyrus Jirongo Says

John Wanjohi Oct 12, 2017

Presidential contestant Cyrus Jirongo has refuted claims linking him to bankruptcy.

In a letter addressed to Chief Justice David Maraga dated 10th October, the former Lugari Member of Parliament complained to the CJ over reports by a section of media purporting that the High Court had declared him bankrupt.

“I have learned with shock from media reports that the High Court declared me bankrupt…” part of the letter read.

“I was taken by surprise by these media reports, which began trending yesterday evening as I have never been served with any decree, bankruptcy notice or other court proceedings.”

There were reports on Tuesday that the politician had been deemed bankrupt after he was unable to clear a debt amounting to Sh700 million.

In a suit filed by businessman Sammy Kogo, who is one of Jirongo's creditors, commercial Court judge Olga Sewe ruled in favor of Kogo and placed Jirongo's estate under receivership.

He described the ‘negative publicity’ as a fraudulent plot aimed at crippling and embarrassing him financially and socially.
