Raila Travels to the UK

John Wanjohi Oct 12, 2017

Opposition leader Raila Odinga traveled to the United Kingdom on Wednesday night even as confusion rocks the repeat election slated for October 26th, following his withdrawal from the race.

The former Prime Minister Raila arrived in the UK and on Thursday met Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury and delivered his first lecture at Chatham House.

"I value greatly the wise counsel that [Welby, who is also] the principal leader of the Anglican Church, imparted when I paid him a courtesy call this morning." Raila wrote on his Facebook page.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader is also understood to have held talks with ex-UN deputy secretary general Mark Brown which "yielded valuable insights into Kenya's political situation".

"My meeting with Lord Mark Malloch Brown, who is very astute in African affairs, by virtue of being the former UK Minister of State for Africa, Asia and the UN and former UN Deputy Secretary-General; yielded valuable insights into Kenya's current political situation," Raila said in another Facebook post.

Raila is expected to deliver a key lecture tomorrow at Chatham house before jetting back to the country on Saturday.
