Shebesh Hits Out at former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe over Her Exit

Former Nairobi Women Representative Rachael Shebesh has hit out at IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe, who resigned from the commission on Wednesday.

Shebesh said that Akombe should come out and tell the truth on who she was working for at IEBC, before she flew to the US to announce her exit. “She [Akombe] should stop being hypocritical and tell us if she was working for NASA or some outside forces,” Shebesh said.

Shebesh said that she had advised Akombe to resign from the commission early enough to allow for the appointment of another commissioner.

Shebesh said Akombe, in a conversation she had with her after nullification of August 8th election, revealed her lack of faith in IEBC. “I told her if she doesn’t trust the system she should resign and pave way for appointment of another commissioner on time,” Shebesh said.

The politician said that next week’s repeat election will continue despite Akombe’s resignation, a sentiment that was echoed by Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa. “With or without Akombe we are going to the ballot on October 26,” he said.

Shebesh was speaking during a campaign to drum support for President Uhuru reelection in Bungoma County.

In her resignation letter, Akombe said she felt the October 26th repeat presidential election “absolutely” cannot be credible as they’re being organized by a very “divided commission”.
