Tanzanian Singer Christina Shusho Forced to Apologize to Kenyans over President Uhuru's Special Prayer
Popular Tanzanian gospel singer Christina Shusho has been forced to apologize to Kenyans following social media outcry over her “partial prayers” on President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In a Facebook post, Shusho had offered special prayers for President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the repeat presidential election and left out National Super Alliance (NASA) Raila Odinga, which angered a section of Kenyans online.
“On our second prayer day, I dedicate Kenya before you, God. Dear God I pray you fill Kenya’s Commander In Chief Uhuru Kenyatta with courage and strength. I pray that God gives you (Uhuru) wisdom to guide Kenyans effectively,” prayed Shusho. “Dear God, if there are any sins committed against you by Kenya’s elders, forgive them. Grant wisdom to your servant Uhuru Kenyatta. Dear God, please answer his prayers, when he reaches out to you. Stand by him; give him the much-needed wisdom to lead Kenya. When he calls upon you, listen to him God, don’t turn your back on him. I fully understand that Kenya’s redeemer lives. Amen.”
A group of Kenyans slammed the musician online and accused her of being 'bias' in her prayer.
The outcry forced her to dedicate a prayer for the former Prime Minister minutes later.
“Dear God, we are praying for Hon. Raila Odinga. For Kenya’s sake, remember him. Grant him grace, both big and small. Grant him his heart’s desires and grant him wisdom for Kenya’s sake. I pray peace prevails even as you consider Raila Odinga. Dear God, use your servant Hon. Raila Odinga as a vessel to preach peace and prosperity. You are a fair God, a peace-loving God, please hear our prayers. Amen,” Shusho prayed.
However, her efforts to salvage the situation did not repair the damage. More Kenyans online continued to express their displeasure with her action, which forced her to issue a public apology. “It was not my intention to hurt you guys. I am sorry. Nimalize kwa kusema nina wapenda, na nitaendelea kuwaombea.”
The singer later pulled down the prayers made to both Uhuru and Raila and the apology.
