Deputy President William Ruto Takes a Dig at NASA as He Casts His Vote

Deputy President William Ruto cast his vote on Thursday morning and called on those boycotting not to disrupt the exercise.

Addressing the press after casting his ballot in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County, the DP called for calm and peace.

Ruto appeared to slam opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) for withdrawing from the election, even as he acknowledged that it was their democratic right not to participate.

“It is unfortunate that some of us may not have the freedom to choose their leaders because of the will of others who do not wish their supporters to vote,” said Ruto.

He continued: “You can choose to think for yourself or choose someone else to think for you… It simply demonstrates everybody can choose what they want and that is democracy,” he added.

The DP further stressed on the need to respect the judiciary and independent bodies, adding that Kenya is governed by the rule of law.

“In our opinion we had won the August 8th election but because of the respect for our institutions, we chose to do it again and that is why we are here. Kenya is a democracy anchored on the rule of law,” he added.

He exuded confidence that the country will remain united despite the divisions over the repeat election.

“This is yet another moment to be proud of our country. Those that will vote and those who will not, we remain one country” concluded Ruto.
