Ekuru Aukot, Japheth Kaluyu Concede Defeat to President Uhuru

Thirdway Alliance's Ekuru Aukot and Independent candidate Japhet Kavinga Kaluyu have conceded defeat to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking moments after Uhuru Kenyatta was declared President-elect by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ekuru and Kavinga accepted the outcome of the poll and promised to fight another day.

“While we might have come a distant third, we will play an effective opposition role now that the other outfit abandoned the role,” said Dr Aukot.

Dr Kaluyu said Uhuru's declaration presents an opportunity for Kenyans to move on following extended electioneering period.

“Our presence made it easier for Kenyans to realise that there are other people besides them, and to respect us and move on with the election,” said Dr Kaluyu.

Uhuru garnered 7,483,895 votes im the repeat poll and was on Monday evening declared President-elect by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati having satisfied the 50 percent plus one vote and at least 25 percent in more than half of the 47 counties.
