Mike Sonko Opens Up about His Sh10,000-a-Day Presidential Suite at City Hotel
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has opened up on his Sh10,000-a-day hotel room he has been operating from in recent weeks.
There has been questions on who has been paying for the presidential suite at Nairobi Safari Club after Sonko’s official convoy was spotted frequently entering and exiting the hotel premises.
However, Sonko said he has been paying for the room for the last four months from his own pocket and not from the county government coffers. He said the suite also served as his campaign headquarters in the run of August 8th General Election.
He has been using the presidential suite located on the 16th floor of the hotel since July.
“I have not taken even a single cent from the county to pay for the room."
"Even the money to buy milk for tea in my office comes from my own pocket,” he told the Nation.
Details released by the hotel on the authorisation of the county boss indicated he has so far paid Sh1,810,690 for the suite. The receipts show the room costs Sonko 10,000 per day, which is a special rate given the long stay.
“I am meeting people here for my private businesses, which I don’t have to disclose to you,” Sonko said.
Sonko indicated he is considering purchasing the City hotel. “I sold my plot (of land) at the Coast recently and I am looking for some more money to buy it,” he said.
