NASA to Hold anti-Uhuru Demonstrations on Friday

National Super Alliance (NASA) will on Friday hold anti-Uhuru Kenyatta demonstrations in Nairobi's Central Business District.

In a letter by lawyer Edwin Sifuna to Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome, Nasa notified Koome of their intention to hold peaceful protests in the City on Friday and asked the police boss to provide necessary security to the protesters.

“Our clients intend to hold peaceful processions/ demonstrations on Friday November 10, 2017 within Nairobi County as part of its quest for electoral justice and an end to electoral impunity in Kenya.”

“You are hereby notified of the same and requested to provide security during the said procession/ demonstration to ensure criminal elements do not take advantage to harm protesters, the public or any property,” the notice reads.

“Your cooperation towards making the peaceful demonstration a success, in line with your responsibilities under the law, will be highly appreciated.”

Nasa leader Raila Odinga said that the coalition will not allow President Uhuru's re-election in October 26th repeat election to stand.

In an interview with Reuters before he left to the US on Tuesday, Raila called for formation of a six-month interim government to allow the country go to a fresh presidential election.

”We need an interim arrangement of governance involving representatives of both parties and six months will be required to carry out all these changes that we need in our country in order to have a proper, free and fair election.”

Raila, together with his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka withdrew from from the October 26th presidential race, accusing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of failing to commit to holding a credible election.
