President Uhuru Strikes Multi-Billion Shilling Partnership Program with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

The national government and the Nairobi County government have agreed to undertake a joint multi-billion shilling program that focuses on economic and social welfare of Nairobi.

In a meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday at his Harambee House office in Nairobi, the two levels of governments discussed on the regeneration of Nairobi.

The initiative is aimed at significantly improving the livelihoods of city residents.

Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe and nominee for County Secretary Peter Kariuki represented the county government of Nairobi in the joint discussions.

The meeting deliberated that in the next one month, all relevant state departments and city county departments will restructure their procurement plans to ensure effective implementation of the program.

Deputy governor Polycarp Igathe and Tourism Cabinet secretary Najib Balala were selected to co-chair the technical committee that will oversee the implementation special programme on Nairobi.

The program will focus on among others; housing and settlement, infrastructure and transport, energy, water resources, environment and solid waste management, youth, women and persons with disability. Other sectors are land, information and communication technology.

Cabinet secretaries Henry Rotich (Treasury), James Macharia (Transport and Infrastructure), Eugene Wamalwa (Water and Irrigation), Cleopa Mailu (Health) and Jacob Kaimenyi (Lands, Housing and Urban Development) are other government officials who attended the meeting.
