Raila Says NASA Won't Participate in Fresh Election Even if Supreme Court Annuls Uhuru's October 26th Victory
National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga says that the coalition will still not participate in a fresh presidential election even if the Supreme Court annul President Uhuru's October 26th victory.
Speaking at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Headquarters in Washington DC on Thursday, the former Prime Minister said all Nasa wants is formation of a transitional government to address electoral reforms before a fresh election is held.
“We will still not participate in the election even if it is annulled again (and a fresh one ordered). What we need is an interim government to address all electoral issues first,” said Mr Odinga and accused the Jubilee government of presiding over a “reign of terror”.
He added: “We are seeing electoral autocracy creeping in, where elections are held just as rituals that must be held every four or five years and must be won by the incumbents at all costs.
When this happens, apathy sets in and people are no longer interested in elections."
He termed October 26th poll in which President Kenyatta garnered 98 per cent of the vote cast a sham, which should not be allowed to stand.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader further accused the Jubilee administration of interfering with the working of independent institutions through attacks.
"IEBC was undermined before the election and the judiciary fell under attack after CJ David Maraga nullified [Uhuru's] election. This was a trend-setting decision in Africa and other continents."
He called on the US and other Western nations to help Kenya come out of the political crisis its staring at by piling pressure on President Uhuru's administration to agree to a fresh credible presidential election.
