Babu Owino, NASA Leaders Arrested in Nairobi
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang and former Starehe parliamentary aspirant Steve Mbogo have been arrested by police in Nairobi.
The three Nasa leaders were apprehended by police while heading to a rally in Kibera under unclear circumstances and were taken to Kilimani Police Station.
"Whether you arrest me or not we will still do what we planned tomorrow. stupidity is not a human right.we are bigger than the kenyan police cells maybe try taking us to icc," Babu Owino said on his Facebook page.
He added: "I have been arrested taken to Kilimani police station. We will resist any attempts to make Kenya a police state. Our press briefing at JKIA must take place."
Police had earlier banned the Nasa rally that had been scheduled for Kamukunji grounds in Kibera. The arrest came hours after police barred NASA leaders led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, MP Babu Owino, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Woman Representatives Gladys Wanga, Esther Passaris and former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale from addressing a media briefing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
“The decision to ban the rally was informed by a request by the Kenya National Examinations Council not to allow public events or meetings in the vicinity of schools. Therefore, planned Nasa rally is not permitted,” Nairobi Police commander Japheth Koome.
