Raila: American People Have Assured Me of their Support

John Wanjohi Nov 18, 2017

The National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga says that American people have assured him of their support in his quest for electoral reforms and justice.

Addressing his supporters at Upper Hill area in Nairobi hours after he arrived in the country following his 10-day trip to the US, the opposition leader said that he was assured of support during his visit.

“Receive greetings from the American people. They are praying for you, and have assured me that change in the country is something they will support,” Raila said.

Raila said that it was sad that President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed him with teargas, while he expected to be accorded a VIP treatment upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by the President himself.

“I appreciate and thank you (supporters) for turning out in large numbers to receive me at the airport. My anger has been triggered by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto. I have returned home from abroad, and President Uhuru Kenyatta knew where I was. It is not like he did not know. Instead of welcoming me appropriately into the country, he sends the police to teargas me and my supporters, that is cruel,” said Odinga.

He added: “I thought (President) Uhuru will come to receive me at the airport. Uhuru refused, and chose to spend time with his deputy, William Ruto."
