Raila Threatens to Take President Uhuru, Ruto Back to ICC
Opposition leader Raila Odinga says that the killings that happened in Babadogo estate, Ruaraka constituency in Nairobi on Sunday morning were organized and executed by the government.
Speaking when he visited the area on Sunday, the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader threatened to take President Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto to the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying they should take responsibility.
“These killings are a product of careful planning and it is clear that they were executed in a manner to suggest that particular ethnic communities were targeted,” said Raila.
He said the heinous acts were engineered by the government and likened them to the 2007/08 post-election violence.
“These killings are orchestrated by the government and what is happening now can only be equated to 2007. We want to tell those responsible that The Hague (ICC) is still an option,” threatened Raila.
Raila said it is unfortunate that those responsible are the same people who had been facing charges at the ICC - referring to Uhuru and Ruto. The two were facing crimes against humanity charges at the Hague-based court, but the proceedings were terminated due to lack of evidence.
“Instead of apologizing, we saw them try to approve of the police action and encourage it."
“Things are bad, and what can save the country is the intervention of the international community. We shall be heading to the ICC. Our people must remain patient but vigilant," Raila added.
