Raila Traveled Out of Country on Sunday ahead of Supreme Court Ruling, Advisor Confirms

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga travelled to Zanzibar on Sunday evening ahead of Supreme Court decision on President Uhuru's re-election, his advisor Salim Lone has confirmed.

In an interview with New York Times on Monday, Lone said the opposition leader left the country for Zanzibar due to the violence witnessed on Friday and Sunday.

“The unrest pushed Mr Odinga out of the country. He left Kenya on Sunday night, according to Salim Lone, a longtime adviser to Mr Odinga and his political party. He is now in Zanzibar, off the coast of mainland Tanzania, Mr. Lone said,” reported NYT.

On Monday, six Supreme Court judges unanimously upheld president Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election in the October 26th repeat presidential election after dismissing two petitions challenging the poll for lack of merit.

“The court has unanimously determined that the petitions are not merited. As a consequence, the presidential election of 26th of October is hereby upheld," Chief Justice David Maraga said.

Raila's departure comes barely two days after he returned to the country following his 10-day trip to the United States
