Martha Karua: I'm Not Interested in Cabinet Job

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has put to an end speculations that she could be part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet in his second term in office.

Karua, who lost to Anne Waiguru in the race for Kirinyaga gubernatorial race said that she is not interested in serving in the cabinet, noting that working at the county level is what interests her.

“I am not looking forward to serve in the government at the national level, My interest is at the the County,” Karua told journalists on Wednesday.

She added: “I can work with the Government but not as an insider, I do not wish to return to cabinet as it is now.”

During the campaign period in the run to August 8th election, President Uhuru had promised a government appointment to anyone who lost the governor race between Karua and former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Waiguru garnered 161,373 votes to be declared the winner of the race, while Ms Karua was second with 122,091 votes. Karua's petition challenging the election of Waiguru has since been dismissed by the Kerugoya High Court.

Lady Justice Lucy Gitari termed the petition by the former Gichugu MP as "fatally defective, hopeless and incurable" after finding that she failed to adhere to Election (Parliamentary and County) Petition Rules 2017.
