We No longer Trust Police Officers, Raila's Wife Ida Says
National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida has condemned the shooting of citizens by police during opposition's demonstrations.
Mrs. Odinga said Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Nairobi were the most affected, noting that more than 100 people were killed during the electioneering period.
Speaking during the burial of former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma’s mother, Joyce Olenye Ayombe at Kombura village, Kobura in Nyando, Idea said that Kenyans have lost confidence with police.
"We have buried close to 100 youths following deaths attributed to such incidents and so we can no longer trust our security officers to protect lives yet we have in place the National Police Service as opposed to a police force,'' she said.
Ida further asked Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to disinfect the raw sewage poured at Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi on Tuesday to stop the opposition from holding a memorial service for the victims of police brutality.
Nasa had planned to hold the event at Jacaranda, parallel to President Uhuru's inauguration at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday. It is not clear who littered the raw sewage in the field.
“If it is true or not that you ordered fecal matter be poured on Jacaranda grounds, please have it disinfected immediately to prevent an imminent outbreak of an epidemic”, Ida cautioned.
