Mudavadi to Contest for the Presidency in 2022
The Amani National Congress (ANC), an affiliate party of National Super Alliance (NASA) has declared it will front its leader Musalia Mudavadi for the presidency in the 2022 general elections.
This comes barely days after the party threatened to walk out of the Nasa coalition citing mistreatment by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), its sister party in the coalition, and after ODM took a majority of leadership positions in Parliament, while sidelining the rest.
ANC MPs and party officials are expected to hold a retreat next weekend to deliberate and review their position in NASA. ANC secretary general Barrack Muluka said that the Western region will rally behind Mudavadi's presidential bid in the 2022 polls and rubbished claims that the party was divided.
“ANC party is not divided as some people have been claiming lately…the party is intact,” he said.
In a pre-election pact entered in the run-up to the August 8th election, Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetang'ula agreed to rally behind ODM leader Raila, who would rule for only one term before handing over to one of the three. The plan could however be thwarted by the failure of Odinga to capture the Presidency after he withdrew from October 26th president race, which was won by President Kenyatta.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka this week through his foot soldiers launched his bid for the presidency in the 2022 polls.
