Raila to US: Keep Off Kenya's Affairs

National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga has asked Western countries opposed to his planned 'swearing in' to stay away from Kenya's matters.

Speaking on Thursday, Odinga said that the United States and other countries that are piping pressure on him to drop the December 12th inauguration should understand the “the will of the people cannot be stopped”.

The US, through Donald Yamamoto,  the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US government’s Bureau of African Affairs had asked Odinga to put off his planned installation and pursue dialogue. Yamamoto is in the country to push for dialogue between president Kenyatta side and Raila's brigade following the disputed presidential elections.

However, Odinga said the US should stop talking about violation of the constitution as far as his inauguration is concerned yet it has been silent on killing of innocent and unarmed citizens by police.

"We thought we had friends but we were wrong and now we know they are enemies. Up to today, no single ambassador has condemned the killing of people by police," Raila said.

"The western countries should, therefore, keep off the affairs of the country as Kenyan problems will only be solved by Kenyans themselves."

The opposition chief was speaking at City Mortuary in the Nairobi when he met and condoled with families whose loved ones died during the post-election chaos.

He claimed that 215 people were killed during the time and the government remained silent over it."The government should compensate all families who have lost their loved ones because they did not deserve to die while exercising their rights."
