NASA Demands to President Uhuru Before Engaging in Dialogue with Him

John Wanjohi Dec 09, 2017

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has made a number of demands to President Uhuru before it agrees to enter in any dialogue with him over the disputed presidential election.

In a meeting with foreign diplomats at Raila’s Capitol Hill offices on Friday, the opposition outfit said it was not interested in a coalition government or any form of power sharing with the Jubilee side and any discussions must be centred on electoral justice.

“We demanded that any meeting must be centered on electoral justice for meaningful negotiations to take place between Jubilee and NASA,” said one of the leaders who attended the meeting.

The US ambassador Robert Godec and UK High Commissioner Nic Hailey led the heads of diplomatic mission in the meeting attended by Raila and co-principal Musalia Mudavadi and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana represented Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

“We also demanded that Kenyatta comes out and publicly apologises to Kenyans over the extra judicial killings by the police and also denounce their conduct,” Raila told the diplomats.

The alliance further demanded that, for talks to begin, President Kenyatta must personally call Raila for a meeting before other leaders are allowed to join the table for dialogue.

“The representatives told us that our competitors Jubilee were ready for dialogue on the way forward for the country, it is now time to agree on what will be on the table for discussion,” Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula told the Standard.

The diplomats told the opposition to shelve the planned swearing in of Odinga as people's president scheduled for December 12th. They are expected to meet with President Uhuru and his team before bringing the two sides on the table for talks.
