Nakuru MCAs Threaten to Impeach Speaker Over Sh100, 000 Christmas Token

After their demand to get unsecured car loans and mortgage worth Sh5 million hit a hard rock, Members of Nakuru County Assembly are now Sh100,000 as Christmas token.

The Ward Representatives have allegedly been blackmailing accounting clerks and have threatened to impeach Assembly Speaker, Joel Kairu if they are not given the money to spend over the Christmas recess.

“They are even threatening to impeach the speaker if their demands are not met,” an official at Nakuru County Assembly, who declined to be mentioned, told the Standard.

However, Mr Kairu denied having knowledge of any plans to oust him, but confessed the MCAs had been having issues with car and mortgage loans.

“MCAs have been having issues with the car loans and mortgages. I haven’t heard of plans to impeach me because no such motion has been filed with the clerk,” he said.

The MCAs have reportedly spent more than Sh20 million each during induction seminars and retreats in their first month in office.

“They have been to Naivasha for four days, Nairobi seven days, Machakos six, and Naivasha again for two more days,” said an official.
