Mike Sonko Riding On My Projects, Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Says
Former Nairobi County Governor Dr. Evans Kidero has accused his successor Mike Sonko of taking credit for projects he initiated before leaving office.
Kidero claims that Governor Sonko is taking credit for programmes started during his tenure, giving examples of the digitization of revenue collection, the setting up of the data centre, which was launched last week and the development of the Nairobi Integrated Development Plan among other projects he initiated.
“Now Sonko has embraced eJijiPay – an online payment system, but during his campaigns, he stated categorically that he would terminate the contract with JamboPay – the service provider,” Kidero said.
Speaking to the media, Kidero said that the Sh1.3 billion data centre launched by President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto on Monday was his brainchild.
“Actually by the time I was leaving City Hall, the data centre was complete. I negotiated with the World Bank in 2014 who agreed to fund it,” he said.
The former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Governor further said that his administration, in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, developed the Nairobi Integrated Development Plan being implemented by Sonko's regime.
