The Coast region people's assembly has denounced Uhuru Kenyatta's Presidency and has demanded for the swearing in of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the people's President.

In a day long people's assembly meeting presided over by Odinga at the Sun n Sand beach resort in Kilifi county on Sunday, coast opposition leaders drawn from Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Tana River and Taita Taveta counties declared Uhuru as an illegitimate president and vowed to recognise Odinga as president.

“No one will stop me from lifting the bible to take the oath,” said Raila.

“When the state of governance becomes bad and the state excludes sections of the nation it becomes inevitable that the people will exercise the right to self determination,” Raila added.

Among resolutions by delegates at the meeting included denouncing Uhuru's presidency as well as pushing for self determination.

“…. we do not recognize the illegitimate presidency of Uhuru Kenyatta, and to state in no uncertain terms that we shall not accept the institutionalization of sham elections in Kenya.”

“There will be no business as usual until a democratically elected President assumes office,” the resolutions statement further reads.
