I'll Relinquish My Seat if Raila isn't Sworn-in in Two Weeks Time, ODM MP Declares
Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okelo has vowed to resign if opposition leader Raila Odinga does not take Oath of Office as the fifth President of Kenya.
Addressing mourners at the burial of veteran radio journalist Agao Patrobas, the Orange Democratic Movement MP said he will relinquish his position if Odinga is not installed as the head of state in two weeks time.
"I went into Parliament not to sit in the Opposition benches but to support President Raila Odinga's policies as he discharges his mandate from state house. I had scanned the environment , followed the polls and was confident of a Raila win," he said on Monday amid cheers from mourners.
He added: "I can't sit pretty in parliament with people I know connived to snatch Odinga's victory while he languishes out in the cold."
The first time MP said he cannot continue serving the people of Nyando with Kenyatta as the president. He gave Odinga two weeks to occupy state house failure to which he will leave his seat.
"This perennial electoral theft must come to an end for the country to move forward. Delivering electoral justice is the panacea to the ills bedeveling Kenya as a nation. Stealing elections three terms in a row is unacceptable."
On Sunday, Raila declared he will be sworn in as president, but failed to reveal when it will happen.
“No one will stop me from lifting the bible to take the oath,” said Raila at Sun n Sand beach resort in Kilifi county on Sunday, where he presided over the inaugural people's assembly meeting for the coast region.
