FBI, Scotland Yard Detectives Rescue 95 Children from a Suspected Human Trafficking Den in Mombasa
An operation conducted by a team of security agencies on Tuesday rescued 95 children from a Madrassa suspected to be a human trafficking and radicalization den in Likoni area in Mombasa.
The team, consisting of officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Scotland Yard rescued the kids after a raid at the Madrassa amid an ongoing human trafficking and terror investigations at the Kenyan coast.
Confirming the rescue, Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) official Grace Ndirangu said detectives carried out the raid following reports on suspected cases of human trafficking.
Ms Ndirangu said the children, who included nationals from England, America, Zambia and Tanzania were taken to coast regional police headquarters for interrogation.
Speaking after the raid, Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) treasurer, Sheikh Hassan Omar condemned how the detectives stormed the Madrassa, disrupting learning. Omar further denied claims that the centre involved itself in children abuse and trafficking.
