Moses Kuria Mocks Court Decision Ordering Him to Pay Martha Karua Sh6.5 Million in Defamation Suit
Controversial Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria appeared to mock Wednesday's court order that awarded Nark Kenya party leader Martha Karua Sh6.5 million in a defamation suit against him.
In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice Joseph Sergon awarded Karua the amount after Kuria declined to respond to the suit in which Karua sued him for claiming that she was involved in a witness procurement scheme to fix Deputy President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the 2007 post election case.
Reacting to the ruling via his Facebook page, Kuria said he plans to hold “a series of Harambees” to raise the Ksh.6.5 million he was ordered to pay Karua as damages in her reputation.
Kuria went further to refer to the sum as “child support” and announced that the first fund drive to raise the amount will be at Kerugoya stadium at a date to be announced later.
“Today I was instructed by the court to pay child support amounting to Ksh 6.5 Million. I will be holding a series of Harambees accross the country so that you, my supporters can help me. The first Harambee will be held at Kerugoya stadium in the next few weeks. The date will be announced here soon,” posted Kuria.
In the suit, Karua was demanding Sh 20 million from Kuria as damages for claiming that she was involved in procuring prosecution witnesses to fix Deputy President William Ruto at the Hague-based court. She argued the sentiments uttered by Kuria tainted her reputation, as well as her capacity as a politician, businesswoman, family woman and an advocate.
As expected, the post by Kuria sparked a myriad of reactions from Kenyans on social media, some getting the humor in the post while some getting aggrieved. See some reactions below;
Mithamo Muchiri says: "Definitely i will attend.
The person claiming to have been defamed has had no fame in the first place.The judgement was a travesty of justice."
Muiru Paul says, “Your loose tongue and big mouth cost you 6.5 million and you still haven’t learnt your lesson. I can never contribute towards such.”
Joy Rubuya notes: "Hata paybill ikuje tumalize hii upuzi mbiombio... Mheshimiwa paybill iletwe.. Wacha tuchange pesa ya retirement ya huyu mama."

John Muhoho posted, “Let me educate some people here. Kerugoya is the capital of Kirinyaga county, it was also a perceived strong hold of the serial loser Martha Karua. Moses is just being sarcastic.”
