Trump: Nigerians Don't Return to their "Huts" after Setting Foot in the US

US President Donald Trump reportedly described Nigerians as people living in "huts", which they refuse to return to after arriving in America, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

The paper claims that Trump said this during a meeting about his administration’s immigration policy in June. Since assuming power in January, Trump has introduced controversial immigration policies, including banning citizens from several countries — mostly from the middle east from visiting US.

The Times further reports that Trump had ready-made reasons for almost all the countries his immigration policy targeted.

“Forty thousand had come from Nigeria, Mr. Trump added. Once they had seen the United States, they would never “go back to their huts” in Africa, recalled the two officials, who asked for anonymity to discuss a sensitive conversation in the Oval Office,” the New York Times says.

Citing different sources, NYT also says that Trump said that foreigners from Haiti “all have AIDS,” : “Haiti had sent 15,000 people. They “all have AIDS."

However, White House denied President Trump used the word “huts” or “AIDS” to describe citizens from any country, NYT says in its reports.

“While the White House did not deny the overall description of the meeting, officials strenuously insisted that Mr. Trump never used the words “AIDS” or “huts” to describe people from any country.” the New York Times add.
