NASA MPs Issue Seven-Day Ultimatum to CS Matiang'i to Resign

John Wanjohi Dec 27, 2017

A section of opposition Members of Parliament have demanded for the resignation of Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, accusing of mismanaging the sector.

While calling for his exit, the National Super Alliance (NASA) MPs further called for a comprehensive audit of the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam by international experts.

Citing the mass failure of candidates in this year's exam, the MPs led by Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Walter Owino (Awendo) gave the CS a seven-day ultimatum to quit, failure to which they will table an impeachment motion in Parliament.

The MPs said they have written to the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi seeking to have immediate recalling of MPs to discuss on the integrity of the exams.

"We cannot condemn our children to a bleak future just because Matiang'i is in a hurry to release results," Nyamita said at a press conference in Nairobi on Wednesday.

"We have bright students in this country, but Matiang'i is subjecting them to emotional torture, which can even make them to commit suicide," he added.

"This man Matiang'i is all over. He wants to even manage independent institutions that are supposed to deal with examination issues," said MP Owino of Awendo.
