Kalonzo: I'm Ready to Bring President Uhuru, Raila Together

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has offered to bring President Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga together for a face-to-face dialogue to resolve the political impasse occasioned by the disputed 2017 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview with Standard at his residence in Karen, Nairobi, the National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal said he will not watch the country cave into crisis, when he knows where the solution lies.

“My brother President Uhuru Kenyatta, and I am calling him ‘president’ in quotes because he has the instruments of power at the moment, and my brother Raila Odinga, time has come for us to sit and talk this one out,” he said.

Kalonzo said he is ready to bring the two political arch-rivals together for talks to salvage the country from trouble.

“If they – Uhuru and Raila – cannot come together, I hope they will allow me to bring them together so that they can look at each other in the face. These are people who have worked together in the past,” Kalonzo said, describing himself as the “glue” that can bind them.

“That ought to be the priority, electoral justice! There is no point of participating in an election with a pre-determined outcome. Everything that I have said can be discussed if we meet,” he said while describing his offer as “one without prejudice”.

Kakonzo said his calls for dialogue should not be misunderstood with call for "nusu mkate" government. “We have made it absolutely clear that this is not about a nusu mkate kind of a thing. It’s much more serious than this. It’s unfortunate that when I made the offer they did not respond. They were busy chewing,” he said.
