Raila's Kin Opposes His 'Swearing-in'
Former Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo is the latest leader allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) to oppose plans to "swear in" Raila Odinga as people's president.
Midiwo, who is opposition leader Raila's cousin, instead said President Uhuru and Odinga should engage in dialogue to avoid plunging the country into violence.
”I am of a different opinion. I would talk to Uhuru directly to stop the shenanigans, to stop the sideshows. To put all and sundry together and see how we can move forward,” Midiwo said on NTV morning show on Tuesday.
”All of us must sit down and say what is right for this country,” he added.
On Odinga’s January 30th inauguration, Midiwo warned it could lead to ugly scenes, but acknowledged that the opposition leader has lost popularity over the last few months.
"This war cry that nothing will happen on 30th… You will find yourself in a hole you can’t get out of. The Raila Odinga of August 8th is less popular than the Raila of January 2018,” he said.
Nasa has said its leader will take Oath of Office on January 30th, although it has indicated its willingness to shelve the plan, should president Kenyatta agree to engage them in constructive dialogue.
