Gideon Moi: I Won't Accept Cabinet Post from President Uhuru
Baringo Senator Gideon Moi says he will not accept a cabinet position if appointed to any such portfolio by President Kenyatta.
Addressing the press at Parliament buildings after being elected chairman of the senate committee on ICT on Tuesday, Moi also distanced himself against claims that he has a hand in the naming of the Cabinet by the head of state.
“I have not been offered a cabinet position and if offered one I will not take it because I have a mandate to serve the people of Baringo with commitment and dedication for the next five years,” said Moi.
The KANU chairperson added, “I am playing no role [of naming of the cabinet] whatsoever.”
There were speculations that Moi would be appointed to the Cabinet by President Kenyatta in his final term in office, as he looks to leave behind a legacy.
On his new role as ICT Committee head in the Senate, he noted: “First and foremost we want to look at what was there before as we draft the cybercrime bill. We would also like to do an audit of some of the technology that is currently being used."
He said his goal is to ensure that Kenya transforms into an Information Communication and Technology hub in Sub-Saharan Africa.
