Matiang'i Directs All School Buses Be Painted Yellow by March 30th
Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang'i has directed all school buses and vans be painted yellow before March 30th, 2018.
Speaking on Friday, Matiang’i, who doubles up as acting CS for Education, said the new changes are in line with the Traffic (Amendment) Bill passed by Parliament in June, last year.
The buses must be painted yellow and the name of the institution in black and will only be allowed to operate between 6am and 6pm.
"School buses time of travel is 6am-6pm. I hereby direct the police to ensure that all the school buses operate from 6am to 6pm only,” the CS said.
The Act further states that vehicles ferrying school going children be driven at a maximum speed limit of 50km per hour and be fitted with safety belts.
The act that seeks safety for school going children states: " A person who being the registered owner or driver of a vehicle used for transporting children, who authorizes or permits the use of a vehicle used for transporting children or is negligent to prevent contravention with this Act commits an offense and shall be liable to a fine not exceeding thirty thousand shillings or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two months, or to both."
