Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Fires Three Top Officials

John Wanjohi Jan 23, 2018

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has fired three top officials slightly a week after the resignation of Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.

The three officials, who include Sonko's personal assistant Bernard Mulwa, delivery unit deputy director Joseph Ireri and Michael Mutua have been shown the door barely three months after they were hired.

On Tuesday, the Governor published the names, ID numbers and photographs of the three officers in the local dailies, stating that they are no longer employees of the Nairobi County government.

“The county advises the public that the persons... are neither employees of the governor's office nor of the county government, hence are not mandated to transact any business on behalf of the county,” reads the notice.

The trio was part of the 'dream team' that Sonko unveiled in October, 2017 to drive his agenda for city residents.

“They are also soliciting for bribes from employed youths, promising them employment as security constables and firefighters," he notice further reads.

“Nairobi wishes to state that soliciting and receiving bribes is a criminal offence hence any person masquerading as a Nairobi county employee or associating the county government with such criminal acts should be apprehended and prosecuted in a court of law."

Nairobi county communication deputy director Elkana Jacob said the the three officials have been taking advantage of their closeness to Sonko to defraud Kenyans.
