Mike Sonko: Why Polycarp Igathe Resigned as Nairobi Deputy Governor
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko claims that his opponents misled Polycarp Igathe into resigning as Nairobi Deputy Governor.
Sonko further dismissed claims by Igathe that his exit was as a result of a strained relationship between them, stating that he left due to the pressure they encountered in the first 100 days in office.
Asked whether there has been any talks aimed at reuniting them, the Governor said no one has approached him for dialogue, noting that Igathe should have sought other ways of resolving the issues other than quitting.
Governor Sonko said the few individuals who misled Igathe have also tried to bully him, but he won't give in to their scheme.
“My deputy was misled by two or three people, I am sure he is regretting…we still talk. And we know the people who misled him. I wont be bullied,I only take orders from the president and the deputy president.” Sonko said in an interview with Kameme Fm.
Igathe resigned two weeks ago, claiming that he failed to gain the trust of Governor Sonko.
“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county," Igathe said on resigning.
