Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa has been arrested. Aladwa was reportedly arrested from his Buru Buru residence in Nairobi on Saturday morning, Minority leader in the National Assembly Junet Mohammed said.

Mohammed said Aladwa was driven to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Rd.

The former Nairobi Mayor was a key figure in the swearing-in of National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga on January 30th, and becomes the third opposition leader to be arrested after former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Mating'i on Wednesday said the swearing-in of the opposition leader was an attempt to oust a legally elected, and vowed to deal with those involved.

“What was witnessed at Uhuru Park was a well-choreographed attempt to subvert or overthrow the legally constitutional government of Kenya,” said Interior CS Matiang’i as he briefed Kenyans on the state of security in the country.

Aladwa was later in the afternoon released on free bond from Nairobi Area police station.

His lawyers, Nelson Havi and John Khaminwa, said Aladwa was questioned over the controversial swearing-in of Raila Odinga as the ‘People’s President’ on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Charles Owino said the MP was arrested in connection with an attack at Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s Karen home on Wednesday.

Owino further noted that Aladwa was also apprehended for planning chaos witnessed in Kibra following the arrest of former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna on Friday morning.
