Firebrand MP Alfred Keter Arrested at Central Bank of Kenya With Sh633 Million Fake Treasury Bills

Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter was on Friday morning arrested at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) headquarters in Nairobi for allegedly faking treasury bills worth Sh633 million.

The firebrand MP was apprehended alongside two others; Arthur Ingolo Sakwa and Madat Suburali Chatur, while presenting the forged treasury bills reportedly issued by CBK in the 1990s.

The trio was taken in by Anti-Banking Fraud Unit detectives as they waited to meet CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge, and were driven to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters for questioning.

"The three individuals have been arrested for presenting forged Treasury Bills purportedly issued by the CBK in the 1990s," said Mr Wallace Kantai, the director of communications at the CBK.

They had reportedly been invited to meet the the CBK governor as part of the process of redeeming the bills. Sakwa and Chatur are directors of Desai Industries Limited.
