NASA Holds Anti-Godec Protest Outside US Embassy in Nairobi [VIDEO]
Opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) on Friday staged anti-United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec protests outside American Embassy in Gigiri, Nairobi.
Armed with anti-Godec banners and placards, the opposition supporters demanded that Godec and US must respect Nasa leader Raila Odinga.
The protesters went ahead to set some American flags and dollars on fire. They asked Godec and US to let Kenyans solve their own political issues.
They accused the envoy of being corrupt and a Jubilee mole. They further cautioned American against interfering with Kenyan political affairs, saying that Kenya is no longer a colony of Western nations.
On Sunday, Godec led 11 other foreign envoys in urging Odinga to first accept that Uhuru Kenyatta is the President, as a beginning point for dialogue to end political stalemate arising from last year's bitterly contested presidential elections.
“The opposition needs to accept that Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto are the legitimate President and Deputy President of Kenya as the basis for the dialogue that it and many Kenyans want. Stoking and threatening violence are not acceptable, nor are extra-constitutional measures to seize power," the diplomats said in a statement.
However, in a rejoinder, Raila angrily dismissed the calls by the heads of mission and asked them to stop meddling with Kenya's affairs.
"We want to tell them that Kenya is an independent country and they can only be observers... we know their positions," Raila said.
"They can not come out here and tell us about democracy... we do not need advice from Godec and British High commissioner."
"...we are independent and we will deal with our matters as Kenyans... Maneno wanaosema ni tupu yote. Wanataka tuiingie kwa mitego (What they are saying is baseless, they want us to enter into traps)," he said.
Nasa has been pressuring President Trump administration to recall Godec on allegations of being partisan and has threatened to petition the US Senate against him.
