Governor Sonko Appoints John Gakuo to Take Polycarp Igathe's Position

Former Nairobi town clerk John Gakuo has been appointed as the new co-chair of the Nairobi re-generation committee to replace Polycarp Igathe.

Gakuo was appointed by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to take up Igathe's place in the team that is tasked to help the Kenyan capital city regain its lost glory, the county government says.

Igathe resigned as Nairobi Deputy Governor last month, citing strained relationship with Sonko. A letter by Sonko indicates that Gakuo's appointment became effective on February 15.

The committee, which is chaired by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala will look into issues touching on land , information and communications technology, housing and settlement, infrastructure and transport and energy.

It will also deal with matters involving water resources, environment and solid waste management and services to youth, women and people with disability.
