MCAs Interrupt Assembly Proceedings to Protest Use of 'Difficult' English By their Colleague

Members of Uasin Gishu County Assembly (MCAs) were on Thursday forced to interrupt proceedings to protest use of 'difficult' English by one of their colleagues.

The MCAs complained that, Jenny Too, a Jubilee nominated MCA, was "too fluent" while making her contributions during debates, which left many of them hanging.

Kipkenyo MCA Hillary Rono asked the assembly's speaker to prevail upon Ms Too to slow down so that her colleagues could grasp her contributions.

“Her English is flowing very fast, Mr Speaker Sir. We are requesting that she slows down so that some of us can comprehend what she is saying," he said on Thursday amid support from fellow MCAs.

“Your choice of words has left many of us ‘floating’. The speech is very complex. Kindly tone down to so that you may have us on board,” Rono told Ms Too.

"We would like to understand what she is saying, Mr Speaker Sir."

Speaker David Kiplagat intervened and called on Too to "speak slowly."

“I don’t know, Honourable Jenny, if it’s possible that you slow down or something like that so that your colleagues can hear you clearly."

“Mr Speaker, I apologise to members. My English can sometimes be very fast but I understand and will comply with the request," Ms Too apologized to her colleagues.
